The Fiji Police Force is calling for cooperation in allowing police officers to conduct their work.
Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu says cases of police assaults will not be condoned, and only makes matters worse for those involved, as they will face additional charges of serious assault.
The call comes following a case of serious assault allegedly involving a 35-year-old farmer of Dogotuki, Labasa, who had assaulted two police officers in Labasa last Friday as they were trying to diffuse a situation where alcohol was involved.
The accused was charged with one count of drunk and disorderly, three counts of serious assault and two counts of damaging property.
He was produced at the Labasa Magistrates Court and remanded for a bail application.
“To hinder a Police Officer from doing their job is an offence and we will come down hard on anyone who assaults any Police Officer or tries to prevent them from executing his or her duties.”
The Commissioner of Police is calling on everyone to work with the Police in maintaining law and order.
