The Nadi Chamber of Commerce and Industry is optimistic about establishing business ties with the UAE following the appointment of Faizal Koya as Fiji’s ambassador to the region.
After a productive lunch meeting, Mr. Koya expressed his commitment to promoting Nadi and Fiji.
Nadi Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Dr Ram Raju highlighted three key areas for potential growth: exports, sports and tourism.
He highlighted that Douglas Pharmaceuticals is already exporting to the UAE and sees opportunities in organically produced health products.
“Many people in Fiji may not be aware but our very own pharmaceutical manufacturer – Douglas Pharmaceuticals is already exporting a lot of their products to the UAE.”
The UAE’s interest in Fiji’s Rugby Sevens prowess and the potential for international sports events were also discussed, along with the need for a Super Multipurpose Stadium to boost the economy.
“Everyone knows Nadi’s potential in accommodating tens of thousands of visitors and players for international events and we can attract all forms of international sports as well as entertainment events.”
While high-end tourism presents challenges due to limited luxury accommodations, Dr Raju sees potential for growth in this sector.
Mr Koya will also serve as the non-resident ambassador to neighbouring Arab countries.
