Kava has emerged as Fiji’s highest-earning agricultural export for the first half of 2024, generating $21.8 million FJD in revenue. This marks a 20.9% increase compared to the same period in 2023.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways, preliminary data on fresh and chilled agricultural exports indicates that kava continues to be a major contributor to Fiji’s export economy.
While the official 2024 Annual Trade Data is yet to be released by the Fiji Bureau of Statistics, past figures highlight kava’s strong export performance. In 2023, Fiji exported 501 metric tonnes of kava globally, with an estimated export value of $38.1 million FJD.
The Ministry expects continued growth in kava exports, driven by rising global demand and expanding markets.
