After weeks of effort, Makans Limited’s 2022 Pinktober fundraising campaign finished on Saturday 5th November with a special morning tea at their Lautoka head office.

Their fundraising efforts broke their previous record and raised a total of $20,240.00, which will be donated to the Fiji Cancer Society.

The fundraising campaign began in early October when donations were sought from corporate partners, suppliers, customers, staff, families and friends, as well as a public street appeal in both Nadi and Lautoka

.

“We are thrilled to announce that our PINKTOBER campaign appeal broke our previous fundraising records to continue our enduring support of cancer awareness and research,” said David Huttley, Chief Executive Officer of Makans Limited.

“It’s amazing to watch our company, families and communities come together and put their hearts into these fundraising efforts. We hope that in addition to raising money we’re also able to amplify the message of courage and hope among cancer fighters, survivors and their loved ones.”

Free medical screening services were also made available during the morning tea for all attendees, courtesy of Medical Services Pacific and the Reproductive Health Centre (MOH). Makans is committed to raising awareness for The Fiji Cancer Society and supporting their tireless efforts in helping those who need treatment, offering specialised patient support post-treatment, and supporting the community
with cancer education and health promotion.

In his address to the crowd assembled at the morning tea, Huttley also emphasised the importance of battling non-communicable diseases, which he called the “scourge of our community.” He called on all of those assembled to take advantage of early cancer screenings and to avoid the unhealthy choices that led to NCDs and cancer.

“This morning tea was the culmination of the month’s fundraising activities,” said Huttley. “And it was a fantastic community effort by local businesses. We are so appreciative to all who attended the morning tea and to all of those who donated to the cause.”
