Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka met with Tuvaluan Prime Minister Feleti Teo today, 1 August, marking their first official discussion.

They acknowledged the strong historical and personal ties between Fiji and Tuvalu, including the contributions of Fijians in Tuvalu and the growing Tuvaluan community in Fiji.

They explored opportunities to enhance cooperation in education, health, agriculture, climate resilience and connectivity, considering a framework agreement to formalise these efforts.

Both leaders look forward to the 53rd Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting in Tonga this month.

The meeting will be held from 26-30 August, to discuss regional priorities.

Mr Rabuka also supported the establishment of a Tuvaluan community facility in Fiji.

The meeting was attended by the Tuvaluan High Commissioner to Fiji, Dr Eselealofa Apinelu and the Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Dr Lesikimacuata Korovavala.
