The Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) continues to uphold Fiji’s proud legacy in international peacekeeping, with the promotion and appointment of two distinguished officers to key United Nations roles.
Colonel Daunivakasala Kalitabua Ravunakana has been appointed as Military and Police Advisor to Fiji’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, following an exceptional career marked by over three decades of dedicated service.
Since his enlistment in 1992, Colonel Ravunakana has served in various capacities across domestic and international missions, including Lebanon, Iraq, Timor-Leste, the Golan Heights, and the Sinai Peninsula.
A graduate of the Royal Military College Duntroon in Australia and the National Defence University of the People’s Liberation Army in China, he also holds advanced qualifications in Strategic and Security Studies and Emergency and Disaster Management.
Meanwhile, Captain Merelesita Cakau has been promoted to the rank of Major and will soon join the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO) as a Military Observer.
Her achievement reflects Fiji’s continued progress in advancing gender representation and leadership within global peacekeeping missions.
Major General Ro Jone Kalouniwai, Commander of the RFMF, congratulated both officers, commending their professionalism, dedication, and service.
He emphasized that their appointments reaffirm Fiji’s steadfast commitment to international peace, stability, and cooperation under the banner of the United Nations.
