Government plays an important role in driving policy related to the global movement to protect fairness and promote clean sports.

Minister for Sports Jese Saukuru who had instructed the chairman of Boxing Commission of Fiji, Adi Narayan to set up an Independent Commission of Inquiry to conduct an investigation, will make final decisions depending on the outcome of the results.

Saukuru is aware of the allegations surrounding the incident that transpired on Saturday at the South Pacific Boxing Promotion in Nadi.

“As far as those rumors are concerned regarding that boxing last week, its still a rumor and I’ll wait for the results to come back then I can comment on it at the time being I think we just leave it for the investigative team to do their work first,”Saukuru said.

Speaking in confidence, Saukuru says that they will correct what is wrong and move forward.

“They (Commission of Inquiry) will report to me and from then on I can make a decision on what to be done. I’ve always encouraged the Board to maintain the welfare of boxers and players. Their welfare are paramount,” Saukuru adds.

The Ministry of Sports is committed to work with WADA to ensure that our national anti-doping legislative framework, is aligned with the World Anti-Doping Code.
