Today, on Thursday, March 14, 2024, a significant milestone was achieved as Ms. Kate Vusoniwailala, Chairperson of the Fiji Museum Board of Trustees, formally inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the esteemed Grand Pacific Hotel Suva (GPH).
This historic MOU signifies a momentous partnership between Fiji’s national museum and one of Suva’s iconic landmarks, both dedicated to enhancing community engagement and accessibility to cultural heritage.
The collaboration aims to curate immersive experiences for guests and visitors, offering curated packages for museum visits, and lending support for exhibition delivery and opening events. Furthermore, the Fiji Museum and GPH will jointly promote awareness of cultural heritage practices, artifacts, and systems through various activities and publications.
Chairperson Vusoniwailala expressed gratitude for the generous support extended by the Grand Pacific Hotel Suva and its management team through this MOU.
She emphasized the significance of such private-public sector partnerships, underscoring their role in corporate responsibility and commitment to stakeholders.
Established in 1904, the Fiji Museum serves as the custodian of Fiji’s rich cultural heritage, encompassing artifacts, textiles, archaeology, natural history specimens, and archival photographs. Its mission is to collect, preserve, and share over 10,000 objects, offering insights into Fiji’s history and diverse cultural landscape.
The museum was founded with the dual purpose of safeguarding Fiji’s cultural legacy and providing a platform for public engagement with the nation’s heritage.
