The Suva Magistrate Court has lifted the stop departure order that was issued for the Director of Carpenters Fiji Limited, Daniel Whippy.
The defense counsel requested the court to lift the stop departure order to allow Whippy to travel for work and other travel commitment made before the charges were laid.
FICAC did not object to the application or the travel dates submitted.
A 50 thousand dollar cash bond has been imposed and should be surrendered to the court registry by mid-day tomorrow.
The stop departure order has been lifted from the 29th of March to the 10th of April and from the 1st to the 17 of May.
Whippy has been order to surrender his passport after each travel.
It is alleged that between 1 January 2018 and 28 September 2018 in the Central Division, John O’ Connor whilst being employed in the civil service as the Chairman of the National Fire Authority Board, directed the Officers of the National Fire Authority (NFA) to amend the findings in their investigation report for the fire which occurred on the 8th of April 2018 at the Morris Hedstorm Warehouse located at Walu Bay.
It is further alleged that between 1st of January 2018 and 28th of September 2018 in the Central Division, Daniel Whippy as the Director of Carpenters PTE Limited counselled O’ Connor for the commission of an offence.
FICAC has also requested the court for additional time to file the second set of disclosures.
FICAC is expected to present 28 witnesses and over 100 documents in this case.
The case has been adjourned to the 11th of next month.
