The Fiji Fringe Festival has firmly established itself as a dynamic platform for local artists, with this year’s event recognizing 445 talented individuals across various performing and technical disciplines.
Now in its second year, the festival has become a vital space for showcasing creative works, fostering networks, and driving growth in Fiji’s creative economy.
This year’s edition saw over 30 performances, resulting in more than $93,000 in direct payments to artists.
The awards night, held in Suva, gathered performers, designers, technicians, and creative entrepreneurs, all recognized for their contributions to the development of Fiji’s cultural industries.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Co-operatives, SMEs, and Communications, Hon. Manoa Kamikamica, served as the Chief Guest at the event.
He praised the festival’s role in fostering economic participation and cultural pride, emphasizing the government’s commitment to supporting initiatives that benefit the creative sector.
“This festival is more than just a stage,” said DPM Kamikamica. “It’s a platform for opportunity, economic engagement, and cultural pride.
The creative sector has the potential to drive inclusive growth across many industries, including tourism and hospitality.”
Fringe Company Director, Ms. Sharleen Ali, highlighted the importance of consistency in building a thriving ecosystem for artists.
“We’re creating more than a moment; we’re building a sustainable environment where every artist, technician, and crew member contributes to the larger vision,” she said.
Artists who participated in this year’s festival shared how the platform has increased their visibility and provided new opportunities to reach broader audiences.
Looking forward to 2025, the festival team is focused on expanding its reach, enhancing artist support, and engaging with communities throughout Fiji.
“The future of our creative economy is bright, and it begins with empowering our own talent,” said DPM Kamikamica.
The 2025 Fiji Fringe Festival is scheduled to take place in Suva from March 29th to April 5th.
