The Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management, Sakiasi R. Ditoka, met today with Her Excellency Ingrid Dahl-Madsen, the Danish Ambassador to Australia and New Zealand and Ambassador Designate to Fiji, to reaffirm Fiji’s diplomatic relations with the Kingdom of Denmark.

The meeting, held in Suva, provided an opportunity to strengthen bilateral cooperation, particularly in areas related to rural development, disaster risk management, and climate resilience.

Minister Ditoka outlined the Fijian Government’s commitment to narrowing the development gap between urban and rural communities. He highlighted key priorities, including access to safe housing, clean water, and resilient infrastructure.

“Our Ministry is focused on building resilience in our rural and maritime communities by providing access to safe housing, clean water, reliable infrastructure, and inclusive development,” Minister Ditoka stated.

He also acknowledged the contributions of development partners such as the United Nations Development Programme’s Governance for Resilient Development in the Pacific (Gov4Res) Programme and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), which have supported initiatives such as evacuation centre construction and the relocation of climate-affected communities.

Fiji expressed its interest in expanding collaboration with Denmark in areas such as agriculture, disaster resilience, community relocation, and climate change adaptation.
