Diabetes Fiji Inc. and Aspen Medical have formalised a partnership aimed at improving diabetes care and service coordination across Fiji. The agreement follows a key meeting held on April 4, 2025, focused on strengthening referral systems between primary healthcare and tertiary services at Aspen Hospital in Lautoka.
The partnership includes the establishment of a joint task force dedicated to enhancing diabetes services and outcomes. Supported by the Ministry of Health and Medical Services, the initiative aims to ensure continuity of care for diabetic patients—from early detection to advanced hospital-based management.
In addition to system integration, Aspen Medical expressed interest in supporting several community-based programs currently operated by Diabetes Fiji in the Western Division. These include:
Diabetes Fiji says these initiatives empower individuals living with diabetes and other non-communicable diseases to play active roles in shaping healthcare services and policies.
The organization also emphasized the importance of partnerships in delivering equitable care, especially to vulnerable communities. It thanked Aspen Medical for its collaboration, and acknowledged long-time corporate partner Kontiki Finance for supporting ongoing health screenings and outreach.
This new partnership reflects shared goals aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals and Universal Health Coverage—placing people living with diabetes at the centre of care and advocacy.
