The Ministry of Housing has reaffirmed its commitment to tackling social issues affecting the housing sector, including illegal activities and drug-related concerns, which continue to impact the safety and well-being of residents in public housing facilities.

Minister for Housing, Maciu Nalumisa, stated that the Ministry is taking proactive steps to create safer living environments, with initiatives such as gated communities expected to play a key role in enhancing security for tenants.

“We are aware of the growing challenges in some of our housing areas. Initiatives like gated communities will go a long way in supporting tenants and ensuring safer neighborhoods,” Minister Nalumisa said.

To improve surveillance and deter criminal activities, the Ministry has already installed several security cameras across multiple housing complexes.

However, Nalumisa acknowledged that if these issues continue to escalate, further measures will be necessary.

The Minister also revealed that the Ministry is currently reviewing previous agreements and arrangements made with tenants.

The aim is to tighten regulations and improve compliance within housing communities.

The Housing Ministry is urging community cooperation and will continue to work closely with law enforcement and relevant stakeholders to improve the quality of life within housing estates.
