The Fiji Police Force and the Fiji Ports Corporation Limited (FPCL) have formalised a new partnership aimed at boosting security and crime prevention at Fiji’s major ports.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed yesterday at Muaiwalu House in Walu Bay, Suva, by Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu and FPCL Acting Chief Executive Officer Suresh Prasad.
The agreement outlines a framework for closer collaboration between the two organisations in areas such as crime prevention, intelligence sharing, investigations, prosecution support, and maintaining overall security at ports. Facilities covered include Suva, Lautoka, Malau, Levuka, Vuda, Wairiki, Savusavu, and any other ports managed by FPCL under the Sea Ports Management Act 2005.
The MOU also focuses on risk management, joint operations to deter illegal activities, enforcement of relevant laws, and coordination on training and development initiatives. Both organisations aim to better share resources and expertise to enhance security across Fiji’s key maritime gateways.
Commissioner Tudravu emphasised the importance of strengthening partnerships to address emerging threats at Fiji’s ports, while Mr. Prasad noted the need for proactive cooperation to ensure the safety and security of cargo, passengers, and port facilities.
