The Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management has signed contracts with two contractors to carry out critical maintenance works on government quarters in Vunisea, Kadavu.

The agreement, signed on May 1, 2025, marks a significant step in the Ministry’s commitment to improving government infrastructure in rural and maritime areas. The upgrades are intended to enhance the living conditions of civil servants stationed in Kadavu, supporting improved service delivery to the region.

The two contractors were selected from a competitive pool of seven bidders through a rigorous evaluation process conducted by the Ministry’s Technical Evaluation Committee.

Permanent Secretary Isoa Talemaibua, who officiated the contract signing in Suva, congratulated the successful companies and emphasised the importance of accountability and compliance in public sector projects.

“As contractors entrusted with public projects, transparency, accountability, and compliance with the government’s financial and procurement regulations must be at the forefront of your operations,” Mr. Talemaibua said.

He underscored the importance of meeting approved timelines and budget requirements to ensure efficient delivery.

“Your work directly supports the Government’s mission to improve rural service delivery by ensuring that our frontline civil servants have access to safe and functional accommodation,” he added.

The maintenance project forms part of the Ministry’s broader initiative to improve essential infrastructure across remote areas. A total of $500,000 has been allocated for the upgrade and enhancement of the Vunisea Government Station in the current financial year.
