Newly released statistics from the Fiji Police Force highlight significant regional differences in reported domestic violence cases, with the Western Division consistently accounting for the highest number of incidents over the past five years.
According to the data, the Western Division recorded between 37% to 40% of all domestic violence cases against women and approximately 35% of cases involving children. In 2020 alone, 1,103 out of 2,692 reported victims (40%) were from the Western Division. In 2024, this figure stood at 970 cases out of a total of 2,617, or 37%.
The Eastern Division accounted for roughly 17% to 18% of all reported cases, while the Northern Division recorded approximately 11%.
In contrast, the Central Division reported significantly lower figures, representing just 3.3% of all domestic violence cases in 2024.
Authorities continue to stress the need for a coordinated, nationwide approach to address the root causes of domestic violence and provide timely support for victims across all regions.
