Two separate road fatalities were reported in Fiji’s Southern Division yesterday.

In the first incident, a man in his 30s was found in the early morning hours near Naisogo Settlement, Colo-I-Suva, after what is suspected to be a hit-and-run accident. He was rushed to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital, where he was sadly pronounced dead.

A suspect, also in his 30s, has been taken into police custody, and his vehicle has been seized for forensic analysis. Investigations are ongoing.

The second fatality involved a woman in her 50s who died from injuries sustained in a crash on Queens Road.

The victim was a passenger in a car driven by her husband, who reportedly lost control and crashed into a lamp post.

She was also taken to CWM Hospital, where she was declared dead, while the driver remains in critical condition.

Fiji’s road death toll now stands at 20, a slight increase from 19 for the same period last year.
