A major attempt to smuggle methamphetamine into Fiji was intercepted at Nadi International Airport in a joint operation by the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service (FRCS) and the Fiji Police Force.

Customs officers discovered over 4 kilograms of methamphetamine concealed in an airfreight consignment from a Southeast African country.

The suspicious cargo was flagged during routine screening, prompting a full inspection that led to the discovery.

Authorities then launched a controlled delivery operation, resulting in the arrest of three suspects. All three have been charged with one count of unlawful importation of illicit drugs.

Two of the accused, including a police officer, face additional charges related to possession of suspected proceeds of crime.

FRCS CEO Udit Singh praised the professionalism of the officers involved and reiterated the agency’s strong stance against border smuggling.

“This is the result of enhanced intelligence, collaboration, and vigilance,” he stated. “We remain committed to shutting down drug trafficking routes.”

Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu also emphasized the importance of integrity within law enforcement, vowing full investigations into any internal collusion.

“There is no room for corruption in our mission to protect Fiji,” he said.

Investigations into a possible broader drug network remain ongoing.
