Rising rugby star Motikiai Murray has signed a contract extension with the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua, reinforcing his growing presence within the franchise.

The 22-year-old flanker, hailing from Lovoni village in Ovalau, has progressed through Fiji’s grassroots rugby development system from Ratu Kadavulevu School (RKS) to the Fiji U20s and the Drua development squad before making his mark in the senior team.

Murray, who debuted for the Drua in the 2023 Super Rugby Pacific quarterfinal against the Crusaders, has since earned 12 caps and scored two tries.

Known for his explosive pace, physicality, and high work rate, he has become a fan favourite and a dependable figure in the squad.

“I’m thankful to the coaches for believing in me. I want to make my family and this Club proud,” said Murray.

Fijian Drua General Manager of Rugby, Baden Stephenson, praised Murray’s potential and leadership.

“Motikiai is a power athlete who thrives in the way we play. His background as Fiji U20 captain shows his leadership qualities and drive to push the team forward.”

Murray captained the national U20s team during the 2023 Junior World Rugby Championship in South Africa, where they secured a Top 10 finish. He has also featured five times for the Fiji Warriors.

The extension signals Drua’s intent to invest in young, homegrown talent and build long-term success on the back of local development pathways.
