A women-led floriculture project in Beqa is continuing to flourish, transforming a shared passion for flowers into a growing agricultural venture.
The Dakuni Women’s Group, headed by Adi Sala Vibote, has made significant strides in floriculture after receiving assistance through the Ministry of Agriculture’s Women in Agriculture Programme during the 2024/2025 financial year.
Over the past three years, the group has focused on cultivating anthurium pot plants, applying practical growing methods, including the use of layered styrofoam and soil to encourage healthy plant development. Their efforts have resulted in 20 active members successfully growing 20 healthy anthurium plants within their greenhouse.
Adi Sala’s enthusiasm for floriculture has encouraged more women in the village to develop agricultural skills and explore income-generating opportunities within the sector.
Support provided through the programme has enabled the group to sustain greenhouse operations, diversify into other plant varieties and further strengthen the role of women in agriculture.
The achievements of the Dakuni Women’s Group demonstrate how targeted agricultural support, combined with commitment and collaboration, can create sustainable opportunities for women in rural communities.
