The Water Authority of Fiji reaffirmed that the new Environmental and Social Management System or ESMS and its implementation will play a key role in building a more resilient, accountable, and environmentally responsible water sector for Fiji.
WAF Chief Executive Officer, Seru Soderberg emphasised that the ESMS goes beyond compliance and serves as a strategic governance tool to strengthen decision-making, risk management, and long-term infrastructure sustainability.
The framework is closely aligned with Fiji’s Water Sector Strategy 2050, supporting the delivery of sustainable, inclusive, and resilient water and sanitation services nationwide.
It also serves as a critical tool for addressing climate vulnerabilities affecting water infrastructure, including flood risks and ageing systems.
