Fijian Drua Chief Executive Officer Jeff Miller has welcomed the Australian Government’s increased investment in the club, describing it as a timely boost following the end of World Rugby’s funding in June this year.
Miller thanked the Prime Ministers of Fiji and Australia for approving the additional support through Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), saying the funding will help ensure the Drua remains financially sustainable while continuing to pursue success in Super Rugby.
He says the investment will also strengthen the club’s long-term vision by expanding its men’s and women’s development pathways, allowing the Drua to continue producing world-class Fijian players and remain competitive on the international stage.
Miller adds the funding will also support the Drua’s significant contribution to Fiji’s economy, with the club generating more than $108 million annually through sports tourism.
He says the partnership will further strengthen the close sporting ties between Fiji and Australia, and the Drua looks forward to continuing its collaboration with the Australian High Commission, DFAT and Rugby Australia.
