The Tailevu North Netball Association has joined forces with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change to promote a cleaner and healthier community through a large-scale clean-up campaign in Korovou.

Minister for Environment and Climate Change Lynda Tabuya presented rubbish bags, gloves and hand sanitisers to the association to support the community initiative, which will involve all 12 affiliated netball teams.

The handover was held at the District Officer’s Office in Korovou, hosted by District Officer Salanieta Baleigau.

Interim Association President Vani Bera encouraged players and supporters to set a positive example by disposing of waste responsibly and helping keep their communities clean.

During the event, the Ministry also promoted proper waste separation and reminded participants that eligible PET bottles can be redeemed through Fiji’s Return and Earn Scheme, which offers five cents per bottle.

Minister Tabuya praised the association for taking the lead and encouraged more sporting organisations, community groups and individuals to become involved in environmental initiatives.

She said sport has the power to inspire positive change beyond the playing field, with every clean-up effort and recycled bottle contributing to a cleaner and healthier Fiji for future generations.
