Fijian nationals and other travellers planning to travel to or transit through Indonesia, particularly Jakarta, are being advised to exercise caution and closely monitor developments following the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau in the Sunda Strait.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade says volcanic ash has affected parts of western Indonesia, causing significant disruptions to air services, including flight cancellations, delays and diversions at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta and other airports.

The situation remains fluid, with further changes to flight schedules possible.

Travellers are advised to check their flight status directly with their airline before travelling to the airport.

Travellers are also advised to follow instructions and updates issued by Indonesian authorities and airport operators.

To avoid travelling to the airport unless their flight has been confirmed to operate, due to ongoing congestion and operational disruptions.

Fijian nationals requiring consular assistance should contact the Fiji Embassy in Jakarta.

The Ministry says it will continue to monitor the situation and issue further advice as necessary.
