Rural communities could see greater access to faster mobile connectivity as Vodafone Fiji works to expand its 5G network beyond major town centres.

The telecommunications company says extending 5G coverage to rural areas remains part of its rollout plans, but this will require additional investment in infrastructure and technology.

Vodafone Fiji Regional Acting CEO Rajnesh Prasad says the company is assessing where the network can be expanded, with customer and community feedback also being considered in determining priority areas.

He says the needs of communities will continue to guide Vodafone’s plans as it works to improve connectivity across the country.

While 5G is currently available mainly in major urban and town centres, Vodafone says coverage will gradually be extended to more areas as the necessary infrastructure and investment are put in place.

The company is encouraging customers and communities, particularly those facing connectivity challenges, to provide feedback on their needs as it plans the next stages of the rollout.

Vodafone says the expansion is expected to bring faster and more reliable mobile connectivity to more Fijians, including those living outside the major urban centres.
