Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs forward Viliame Kikau has been recognize for his outstanding contribution off the field, receiving the 2026 NRL Community Award for his leadership and service to communities both within and beyond his club commitments.

The 31-year-old, Bulldog No.838, was also nominated for the prestigious 2026 Ken Stephen Medal Man of the Year Award, recognising his continued efforts to make a difference in people’s lives through community engagement.

A key part of Kikau’s impact has been the establishment of the Kikau Academy in 2023, which aims to create pathways for young rugby league players in Fiji to pursue their sporting dreams. The academy has already provided aspiring athletes with unique opportunities, including training sessions at Belmore Sports Ground alongside the Bulldogs’ NRL squad, giving them valuable exposure to the professional game.

Beyond sport, the academy has also focused on community outreach. In partnership with Australian toy brand Kidstuff, the initiative brought smiles to more than 200 children during the Christmas season by delivering toys to orphanages, women’s shelters, and children’s charities.

Despite the recognition, Kikau was quick to credit those working behind the scenes.

“This is for my Academy,” Kikau said.

“My name is on it, but there’s a lot of people that are doing the work behind the scenes, and I think getting this award is just saying thank you to all those people.”

The award highlights Kikau’s growing legacy as not only one of the NRL’s premier forwards but also as a passionate advocate for creating opportunities and uplifting communities, particularly in his homeland of Fiji.
