A Government grant of $15,000 is helping Nanumi Au Eco Village in Rakiraki broaden its tourism services, increase earnings and provide employment for local women.

The business received the funding through the Pilot Tourism Micro and Small Enterprises Grant Programme, which was used to build an open-air communal kitchen hall. The new facility allows Nanumi Au to cater for larger groups and host cultural activities, village nights, workshops and community events.

Since starting operations in 2022, Nanumi Au has grown beyond accommodation and glamping, introducing a wider selection of community-based tourism activities. The business now employs two women in full-time contracted roles.

Its tourism offerings have also been strengthened through partnerships with nearby communities and businesses, including Narara Village, Bula Coffee and Waitika Farm Fiji.

Nanumi Au also places a strong focus on environmental sustainability through mangrove conservation, tree planting, village clean-ups and the restoration of former sugarcane land with native and fruit trees.

The initiative highlights the role small tourism enterprises can play in generating income, creating employment and strengthening community partnerships while offering visitors authentic Fijian experiences.

Applications for the Pilot Tourism Micro and Small Enterprises Grant Programme remain open until the end of September.
