The Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service is looking at ways to assist students who had discontinued their studies but remained under government-funded scholarship or loan arrangements and were unable to repay their outstanding debt.

TSLS Head of Student Services Vinay Kumar said the agency was looking at opportunities for students to return to education, complete their programmes and fulfil their bond-service obligations.

Kumar said students needed to understand that government-funded scholarship support was not simply a complete write-off, as recipients were required to fulfil the conditions attached to their funding.

Students who did not complete their studies or failed to meet their obligations could be required to repay the funding, depending on the terms of their agreement.

Kumar said TSLS had a recovery and monitoring team that tracked students who had discontinued their studies or had yet to fulfil their bond obligations.

He said where students had discontinued their studies, TSLS could work with them to explore opportunities to return and complete their programmes.

Kumar said the Government had invested significantly in the education of students, and recipients had a responsibility to contribute to the country through the required bond service or meet the repayment conditions attached to their funding.

He said students facing difficulties in completing their studies or meeting their bond requirements should engage with TSLS to discuss their circumstances and available options.
