Workers and employers across Fiji could see changes to minimum wage rates following Cabinet’s decision to review the National Minimum Wage and sector-specific wages covering 10 industries.

An independent consultant will examine factors including wages, inflation, productivity, employment, poverty and current economic conditions.

The review will also consider how possible wage changes could affect businesses, jobs, investment and regional economies.

Workers, employers, Government and the public will have an opportunity to share their views during the process.

Once completed, the findings will go to the Employment Relations Advisory Board and Wages Councils, followed by 30 days of public consultation.

Final recommendations will then be submitted to Cabinet for consideration.
