Maritime border monitoring in Fiji’s western waters has been reinforced this week through a joint operation involving the Republic of Fiji Navy and the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service.

Navy personnel deployed from RFNS Timo, the Special Boat Service and naval diving teams are assisting FRCS with monitoring vessels operating in the area.

The support includes vessel surveillance, inspections and specialist diving assistance when required, strengthening the agencies’ ability to maintain oversight of activity at sea.

The coordinated operation forms part of Fiji’s whole-of-government approach to maritime security, with agencies working together to identify, deter and disrupt illegal activities in Fiji’s waters.

The deployment also supports efforts to protect Fiji’s maritime borders and maintain closer oversight of vessels operating in the western region.
