Fijian speedster Setareki Bituniyata has been named the French Pro D2 Player of the Year for the 2025/26 season, adding another major accolade to an outstanding campaign in one of Europe’s most competitive rugby leagues.

The former Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s representative emerged ahead of fellow nominees Raymond Nu’u of Colomiers and Michael Ruru of Vannes to claim the prestigious award.

Bituniyata delivered a season to remember, scoring 14 tries in 27 appearances and finishing sixth on the league’s try-scoring list. His influence extended far beyond crossing the try line, with the dynamic outside back leading the competition in offloads (43) while ranking second in broken tackles (88).

The Fijian flyer also finished third in metres gained (2,384) and seventh in line breaks (19), underlining his reputation as one of the most dangerous attacking players in the competition.

His combination of pace, power and creativity consistently troubled opposition defences throughout the season and played a key role in making him one of the standout performers in the French second-tier championship.

The award further highlights the impact Fijian players continue to make on the European rugby stage, with Bituniyata’s stellar performances earning widespread recognition across the Pro D2 competition.
