The Fiji National Rugby League (FNRL) Board has confirmed the activation of an Independent Safeguarding Commission to review internal administrative and workplace protection concerns within the organization.

In a statement, the Board said the Commission was established on 21 September 2026 and comprises representatives connected with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Fiji National Sports Commission, Pherrus Financial Services Fiji, and an independent legal counsel.

According to the FNRL, the Commission will operate as an independent advisory body responsible for conducting detailed fact-finding, root-cause analysis, and reviewing corporate governance practices.

The Board said the Commission’s primary role is to provide structural recommendations aimed at strengthening governance and ensuring a safe, transparent, and compliant workplace environment for staff, attachment students, and volunteers.

FNRL emphasized that the review process is being conducted independently and free from external organizational or administrative influence.

To protect the integrity of the process and all individuals involved, the organization has implemented strict confidentiality measures while the review is underway.

The Board also acknowledged ongoing public reporting and references to civil authorities, reaffirming its commitment to cooperate with any formal external investigations or processes.

At the same time, FNRL said internal administrative matters will continue to be addressed in accordance with its governance framework and policies.

In addition, the organization has engaged independent professional support services to ensure the welfare and wellbeing of personnel remain a priority throughout the review process.

The FNRL Board says the initiative reflects its commitment to accountability, safeguarding, and the continuous improvement of workplace standards within the national governing body.
