With exactly one year remaining until Men’s Rugby World Cup 2027 begins in Australia, anticipation is building worldwide, with more than half of the tournament’s available tickets already sold.

Organisers say 1.3 million tickets have been purchased by supporters from 164 countries, following strong demand across the tournament’s various sales phases.

The latest Visa Priority Sale, held earlier this week, added to the growing momentum ahead of the 11th edition of the Rugby World Cup.

Tickets remaining from that sale will become available from 12pm AEST on 1 October, giving Australian fans and supporters of the competing nations another chance to attend the tournament. Prices begin at AUD$40 for adults and AUD$20 for children.

The figures also point to strong interest from younger supporters.

More than half of ticket purchasers, 51 per cent, are aged between 16 and 44, while organisers expect approximately 250,000 international visitors to travel to Australia for the event.

Those visitors are expected to bring significant activity to the seven Host Cities, with the tournament set to combine international rugby with Australia’s tourism, culture and local communities.

The 2027 edition will be the first Rugby World Cup hosted in Australia in more than 20 years and will feature an expanded field of 24 nations playing 52 matches.

A new round of 16 will also be introduced, giving more teams the opportunity to progress into the knockout stages.

World Rugby Chair Brett Robinson said the tournament would coincide with the competition’s 40th anniversary and represent a new chapter for the sport.

Tournament organisers say preparations remain on schedule, with governments, Host Cities and commercial partners working together ahead of the opening match on 1 October 2027.

The one-year countdown is also being marked in Sydney, where Men’s Rugby World Cup 2027 HQ has opened at First Fleet Park.

The temporary fan attraction features a seven-metre rugby ball, Rugby World Cup memorabilia and a range of activities running from 1–2 October 2026.

Visitors can see the Webb Ellis Cup, take part in interactive rugby challenges and explore a heritage exhibition featuring historic jerseys and memorabilia. Star appearances, giveaways and live entertainment are also part of the programme.

The celebrations will continue on 2 October with a Nick Cummins Lookalike Contest, offering Sydney’s “Honey Badgers” the chance to compete for tickets to the city’s opening match of the tournament.

Men’s Rugby World Cup 2027 will run from 1 October to 13 November across Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Newcastle, Perth, Sydney and Townsville.

Organisers are also planning weekend-focused scheduling and accessible kick-off times to encourage families, local supporters and international visitors to attend matches.

With the countdown now at 365 days, the tournament is moving into its final year of preparations as Australia prepares to welcome rugby fans from around the world.
