Maritime security professionals from across the Pacific have come together in Fiji for a regional workshop focused on improving Maritime Domain Awareness and strengthening cooperation across the region.
The workshop, held at the Holiday Inn this week, brought together practitioners, policymakers and academics involved in maritime operations, policy and research. Participants also visited the VMESC during the programme.
The event was organised in partnership with the University of Adelaide and Solomon Islands University, with support from the Republic of Fiji Navy.
Discussions during the workshop focused on sharing expertise, improving regional coordination and developing a stronger understanding of Maritime Domain Awareness.
Participants also examined how closer cooperation and consistent procedures could help improve the exchange of information and support coordinated responses to maritime-related challenges.
The Fiji Navy said the partnerships behind the workshop, together with the contributions from participants, are important to strengthening maritime security in the Pacific.
It also highlighted the importance of maintaining stronger links between those working in maritime operations, policymaking and academia to support future regional cooperation.
