Three of Fiji’s most promising young footballers are taking an important step in their development after joining A-League club Auckland FC in New Zealand under the OFC Player Placement Programme 2026.

Maikah Dau, Ryan Naresh and Sterling Vasconcellos, accompanied by Fiji national team assistant coach Marika Rodu, have completed the first phase of the programme and are now progressing through their second block of training with the Auckland-based club.

The initiative provides the players with valuable exposure to a professional football environment, allowing them to experience the intensity, discipline and expectations required at the highest level of the game.

The placement is aimed at enhancing their technical abilities, improving tactical awareness and introducing them to elite training standards as they continue their football development.

For the three young footballers, the programme offers a unique opportunity to learn from professional players and coaches while gaining firsthand insight into the demands of the professional game.

Rodu is also benefiting from the experience, observing coaching methods and player development systems that could help strengthen Fiji’s football programmes in the future.

The OFC Player Placement Programme continues to play a key role in creating pathways for talented Pacific footballers, providing aspiring professionals with opportunities to develop their skills and potentially pursue careers at the highest levels of the sport.
