Emergency water deliveries are continuing across the Yasawa Islands as prolonged dry conditions affect communities, schools and health facilities.
The latest operation delivered 300,000 litres of water to people and essential facilities on Naviti and Waya islands through a coordinated effort involving several Fiji Government agencies.
On Naviti, water supplies were provided to Yasawa Secondary School, Marou Primary School, Kese Health Centre, the Police Post, Vakatawa and the doctor’s residence.
Other recipients included Ratu Apenisa Primary School in Soso Village, Somosomo Nursing Station and Gaunavou Primary School in Gunu Village.
On Waya Island, Ratu Naivalu Primary School and Namara Village School also received water to support students, staff and nearby communities.
The response was coordinated by the Ministry of Public Works, Meteorological Services and Transport through Government Shipping Services, the Water Authority of Fiji, and the Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management, working with the Fiji National Disaster Risk Management Office through the Commissioner Western’s Office.
The ongoing initiative aims to ease water shortages linked to El Niño conditions, with Government agencies continuing efforts to reach vulnerable and remote communities across the country.
