Ginger farmers and vulnerable households across Fiji’s Central Division are receiving assistance through a relief initiative led by ADRA Fiji to help communities cope with the ongoing fuel crisis.
A total of 200 agricultural input packages have been distributed to ginger farmers in Tailevu, Rewa, Naitasiri and Serua-Namosi, supporting their efforts to maintain production and protect their livelihoods.
In a separate initiative, 43 multipurpose cash assistance packages have been provided to households of persons with disabilities to help cover essential needs during the crisis.
ADRA Fiji worked alongside the Ministry of Agriculture, Waterways and Sugar Industry to identify eligible farmers and households, helping ensure assistance reaches those most in need.
The distributions form part of the Fiji Fuel Crisis Response: Protecting Food Security and Smallholder Livelihoods During Fiji’s Fuel Crisis.
The initiative aims to sustain agricultural activities, safeguard household incomes and strengthen food security as fuel-related challenges place pressure on communities.
The response is funded by the Australian Government’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade through the Australian Humanitarian Partnership, in collaboration with the Church Agencies Network Disaster Operations (CAN DO).
The support highlights the importance of coordinated humanitarian efforts in helping smallholder farmers maintain food production while providing vulnerable households with assistance to meet their daily needs.
