The All Blacks produced a clinical second-half performance to defeat the Springboks 33-16 in the opening Test at Ellis Park in Johannesburg, crossing for five tries to one in a statement victory.

South Africa struck first with an early penalty before New Zealand responded through winger Will Jordan, who finished off a lineout drive to score the opening try of the match.

The Springboks hit back through Andre Esterhuizen to regain the lead, but the visitors continued to fight back, with Josh Moorby crossing after a powerful break from Tupou Vaa’i. South Africa edged into halftime with a slender 13-12 advantage after adding another penalty.

The hosts extended their lead early in the second half, but the momentum shifted when All Blacks lock Fabian Holland charged down a clearing kick and raced away to score, putting New Zealand back in front.

From there, the visitors took control. Luke Jacobson powered over from close range to stretch the lead before South Africa’s hopes were dented by two yellow cards in the final stages.

The All Blacks capitalised on the numerical advantage, with Jordan grabbing his second try of the game to seal an impressive 33-16 victory.

The win gives New Zealand an early edge in the Test series and highlights the side’s attacking firepower, with five tries scored against the reigning world champions on their home turf.
