The alleged bribery trial of senior police officer George Lagi has been adjourned after the defence sought more time to call a witness who is currently overseas.
Lagi appeared before Magistrate Shageeth Somaratne in the Suva Magistrates Court this morning.
Defence lawyer Joji Cakau also informed the court that Lagi’s mother passed away last week.
FICAC Counsel Tina Narokolevu told the court that the Commission has been informed about this and does not object.
Lagi is charged with one count of bribery under the Crimes Act.
It is alleged that between October 1, 2012, and January 31, 2014, while serving with the Criminal Investigations Department, he accepted $6,580 from another officer in relation to the performance of his duties as a CID officer.
The matter has been adjourned to the 19th of August for the defence witness to testify.
