The Republic of Fiji Military Forces has confirmed the voluntary surrender of 246 live rounds of 5.56mm ammunition in the Nausori area as part of ongoing joint security operations with the Fiji Police Force.

According to the RFMF, the ammunition was handed over on 16 May 2026 following continued security operations being carried out by both forces.

Several magazines and magazine pouches were also surrendered and are now being held by the military for further assessment and investigation.

The RFMF acknowledged the cooperation shown by those who voluntarily came forward, describing the action as an important contribution toward maintaining public safety, national security, and community trust.

Authorities are now urging anyone with information regarding the illegal possession, storage, movement, or concealment of weapons, ammunition, or military equipment to report it to the nearest security agency.

The military warned that unauthorized possession of arms and ammunition remains a serious threat to public safety and national security, while assuring the public that all information received will be handled confidentially.

The RFMF said it will continue working closely with police and other security agencies to strengthen national security and ensure the safety and stability of the country.
