By fostering a thriving audio visual industry, Fiji can positively impact the various sectors including hospitality, transportation and local service providers
This was highlighted by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Cooperatives, MSMEs and Communications, Manoa Kamikamica while officiating at the Film Fiji Industry Connect in Suva yesterday
Kamikamica said that Film Fiji has made enormous contributions towards Fiji’s economy
“In the last financial year alone, Fiji hosted films, television shows and documentaries from 11 different countries which immensely contributed to the 255 million and almost 260 million of new economic activity. This productions created employment for just under 1300 Fijians and engaged 282 local service providers signaling a vast economic impact of the audio visual industry.”
The Deputy Prime Minister adds that similar to Love Island, Fiji aims to welcome more international productions to its shores while also paving the way for local filmmakers
“The Fiji government recognizes the transformative potential of the audio visual industry. As such, we are committed to creating an enabling environment for its growth. Our collaboration with the Immigration Department on work permit automations is a testament to this commitment. The Fijian government remains committed as well to providing greater opportunities for growth and development by offering the necessary support, we aim to create an environment where local filmmakers can thrive, pushing the boundaries of their craft and exploring their full potential.”
