In Fiji:
Cabinet has approved an extension of Fiji’s beach-de-mer harvesting and export season, allowing licensed activities to continue from August 1, 2026, until January 31, 2027.
The decision is expected to boost income opportunities for coastal and maritime communities while supporting the continued growth of the country’s beach-de-mer export industry.
The Ministry of Fisheries will oversee the extended season by monitoring harvesting activities, enforcing compliance with fisheries regulations and gathering data to ensure the resource is managed sustainably.
The ministry will also continue its stock enhancement programmes to help maintain healthy beach-de-mer populations and secure the long-term sustainability of the fishery.
