Farmers across Fiji are set to benefit from improved drainage infrastructure aimed at protecting agricultural land from excess water and strengthening farm productivity.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Waterways and Sugar Industry has completed 12 drainage projects under its 2025/2026 Waterways Capital Works Programme, with an investment of more than $726,000.

The completed works have reached 1,372 farms nationwide, providing farmers with better water management systems to help minimise the impact of flooding on their crops.

For farming communities, the improved drainage is expected to support more reliable agricultural production while building resilience against water-related damage to farmland.
