More than 90 households in Gusuisavu Village are benefiting from improved access to safe and dependable water following the completion of a new borehole project.

For many years, residents depended on a single dam constructed by previous generations when the village population was considerably smaller. As the community expanded, the existing water source struggled to meet growing demand, resulting in frequent shortages.

The newly installed borehole, together with enhancements to the village water system, has increased the number of available water sources to three.

The development is expected to strengthen water supply for homes, the local school, and the broader community.

Women and children, who often carried the greatest burden during periods of limited water access, have welcomed the improvement.

Residents recalled occasions when they were forced to collect water from nearby rivers whenever village taps ran dry.

Village Headman Navitalai Matanawa expressed gratitude to the Government, the Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources, the Water Authority of Fiji, and project partners for addressing a long-standing challenge faced by the community.

The upgraded water infrastructure is anticipated to improve living conditions, ease daily pressures on families, and provide a more secure and sustainable water supply as Gusuisavu Village continues to grow.
