Bus commuters in Fiji now have another way to pay their fares, with QR code payments and additional digital wallet top-up options introduced under the national e-Ticketing system.

The latest changes allow passengers to generate a QR code through the official e-Ticketing mobile app and use it to pay for bus travel without relying on a physical e-Ticketing card.

Minister for Policing and Communications, Ioane Naivalurua, welcomed the upgrades, saying the new features are part of Government’s efforts to make public transport payments easier, more accessible and better connected through digital technology.

Passengers using Digicel myCash and Vodafone M-PAiSA can now transfer money directly into the e-Ticketing app. The system also supports online transfers from local bank accounts through the National Payment Switch.

For daily bus users, the changes provide greater flexibility by allowing passengers to manage their travel payments through mobile and online services.

Minister Naivalurua said digital transformation should focus on making everyday services more convenient and accessible, rather than simply introducing new technology.

The e-Ticketing improvements form part of the Government’s broader National Digital Strategy and Universal Service Programme. Under the programme, 116 operational sites have been connected across Kadavu, Tailevu, Lau, Lomaiviti, Namosi and Navosa, reaching more than 2,600 households and 11,400 Fijians.

The Minister has encouraged bus passengers to take advantage of the new mobile payment options as Fiji continues efforts to develop a more connected, secure and inclusive digital environment.
