Cabinet has approved Fiji’s National Waste Management and Pollution Control Strategy 2026–2035, setting out a 10-year plan to strengthen waste management practices and reduce pollution across the country.

The strategy provides a national framework focused on preventing waste, encouraging reuse and recycling, improving waste treatment, and ensuring safe disposal.

It also aims to strengthen regulatory enforcement, improve coordination among government agencies, promote resource recovery, increase public awareness, and encourage greater involvement from the private sector.

Government says the strategy adopts a more coordinated approach to tackling waste and pollution, with the goal of protecting public health, reducing environmental impacts, and strengthening resilience against climate change while supporting sustainable economic growth.

The strategy will also assist Fiji in meeting its national, regional, and international environmental commitments, reinforcing efforts to protect the environment and promote cleaner and healthier communities.
