Cabinet has approved a new policy aimed at guiding the relocation and resettlement of families evicted from informal settlements across Fiji.
The Informal Settlement Evicted Households’ Relocation and Resettlement Policy establishes a framework for the Ministry of Housing to assist affected households through relocation options such as development leases, Greenfield sites, subdivided lots, social housing and village communities.
The initiative is intended to improve living conditions while also protecting the rights and welfare of families impacted by evictions.
Cabinet has also endorsed the formation of a Cabinet Subcommittee on Housing, which will be chaired by the Minister responsible for Housing.
The subcommittee is expected to strengthen coordination and provide a more comprehensive approach to housing issues nationwide.
