Cabinet has approved Fiji’s Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) Plan, paving the way for a more coordinated and sustainable approach to managing the nation’s water resources.
The 10-year plan will be implemented by the Department of Water and Sewerage in partnership with relevant Government agencies to improve the allocation, protection and long-term management of water across the country.
Under the plan, efforts will focus on strengthening water governance, improving water quality and monitoring systems, enhancing preparedness for floods and droughts, and protecting Fiji’s watersheds and surrounding ecosystems.
The initiative reflects the Government’s ongoing commitment to improving water security, building climate resilience and promoting sustainable development to safeguard the country’s water resources for current and future generations.
