Sigatoka Village recently hosted a group of over 26 students from the Caregivers Training Institute, who took part in an outreach program aimed at improving care for the elderly in the community.

Director Permal Pillay told Fiji One News the caregiving industry in Fiji is quite small, however there is a huge demand in overseas, such as Australia and New Zealand.

The Caregivers Training Institute provides an 8 months long program for Caregiving and caregiver self care.

Pillay says more experience is needed to meet both local and international demands.

“There is a limited pathway in Fiji for Caregiving employment, but looking overseas such as Australia and United States, there is a big pathway for employment available”, he said.

Over the weekend, 26 Caregivering students visited Sigatoka Village as part of an outreach and practical, educating villagers on managing specific patient needs.

“These efforts are part of a broader mission to uplift the quality of care available to the elderly within local communities”, Pillay said.

Caregiver Training Institute’s Diploma courses are recognised internationally, which strives to educate and provide training skills for individuals looking to provide quality, yet compassionate care to senior citizens and loved ones.
