It was a proud and emotional day at the Centre for Appropriate Technology and Development in Nadave, as a record-breaking 111 graduates crossed the stage in a vibrant celebration of iTaukei innovation and excellence.

For the first time in the institution’s history, such a large number of students graduated, marking a milestone in their mission to empower Fijian communities through hands-on, practical skills.

Among the graduates stood five determined young women – a powerful reminder that change is happening in places once seen as male-dominated.

An Assistant Trainer in Sustainable Boat Building, Salote Tadokai, shared how Nadave gives priority to women and is breaking down barriers in fields often seen as “only for men.”

“Now mans trade is something that girls want. A few years ago, it was evident that our girls were coming in. They like doing the trade works that man do. However, when the girls come in, we have to let them out of school. And one of our main priorities is getting our girls in school” Tadokai mentions.

Akosita Talei, who earned her Certificate III in Welding and Fabrication, expressed heartfelt gratitude to her family and faith.

“I feel happy after the struggles been through, and all the things we’ve been though. First if all I would like to thank the lord Jesus Christfor always protecting us and always guiding me and thank you to my Mum who’s in overseas. I thank you to my father and all my family that’s been supporting me throughout last year” Talei emphasis.

Eceni Tanumi, echoed her sentiments but also reached out to young people still figuring out their path.

“I would just like to give an advice to those that have nowhere to go, and if you get stuck, you may not be able to get into the University of the South Pacific, even if you don’t get into the Fiji National University. The doors at CATD in Nadave are open for the provision of education and the aim of achieving a better life within our homes” Tanumi advices.

This year’s theme, “Celebrating the Future of iTaukei Innovation & Excellence,” shone brightly through the achievements and stories of these graduates.
